Downtown Blue Ridge Parking: Lots, Fees, Time Limits & Walking Distances

The short answer

Street parking in downtown Blue Ridge is free, but East and West Main Street have a 3-hour limit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For a longer visit or a 4-hour train ride, use a lot: the City lot off Mountain Street ($10 a day on the City's sheet captured May 2024), the City Hall lot, or the paid Trackside Station garage. Each is about 5 minutes on foot from the depot.

Walking times are measured along OpenStreetMap streets at about 3 mph. Rules are quoted from each source with the date we checked; the City's own sheet carries its own date, and event days can change everything.

Plan the rest of your day

The rules, and how current they are

The only City document with rates and limits is the City of Blue Ridge parking information sheet. The copy we could read is an Internet Archive capture from May 2024, and the City’s live site blocked our checks, so every rate below is listed by the City but not yet confirmed as current. The City’s own Downtown Parking page (latest capture February 2025) shows only a March 2022 Business Association map and lists no rates at all.

  • East Main Street (Church Street to Mountain Street) and West Main Street (Depot Street to Mountain Street): free, with a 3-hour limit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. The railway’s booking notes also say Main Street parking is limited to 3 hours.
  • Other public streets downtown: free.
  • City lot off Mountain Street: $10 a day, or $20 a day during festivals and events.
  • City Hall lot, 480 West First Street: free, except $20 a day on festival and event days.
  • Private lots: the owners set the rates, not the City.
  • Reserved spaces: some spots are held for business owners and employees.
  • West Main spaces facing the tracks: cars and small SUVs only.

The sheet doesn’t say which days count as festival or event days. It gives no fines and no space counts, and we found none of those published anywhere else.

Minutes are OpenStreetMap street distances at a 3 mph pace, door to door, rounded. Hills, crossings and crowds aren’t modeled, and we haven’t yet walked each route with a stopwatch. Costs are from the City sheet (May 2024 capture) except the garage, which the arts association lists as paid. For more destinations, see walking times from every lot.

Why the 3-hour limit matters on a train day

The Blue Ridge Railway asks riders to arrive 45 minutes before departure to park and pick up tickets. Add that to a 4-hour ride and you’re parked for close to 5 hours, which a 3-hour Main Street space won’t cover. In the booking system for late October to early December 2026, the 4-hour train runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., so park in a lot for it. The 2-hour train at 3 p.m. is different: park at 2:15 and you’ve used 2 hours 45 minutes when the limit ends at 5 p.m. That fits, with little to spare. There’s more in train-day parking and on a train day from downtown.

The railway also warns that weekends are its busiest days, with heavy traffic and limited parking. On a Saturday, come early.

Accessible parking

The railway’s contact page puts accessible (handicap) spaces with nearby wheelchair-accessible entrances on the corner of East Main Street in front of the depot. The train’s wheelchair access is at that same corner. The March 2022 downtown map also marks accessible spaces at the City lot off Mountain Street. Nobody publishes how many accessible spaces there are.

Private lots and ParkMobile

Some private downtown lots run by Green Rocks LLC take pay-by-phone through ParkMobile. Use the zone number on the lot’s green ParkMobile sign. A $0.35 Basic-membership fee is added to each transaction, and a session can be extended but not stopped early. ParkMobile lists Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and its own wallet, and gives 706-632-2222 as the towing company to call about a tow. It doesn’t say which lots are Green Rocks lots, so look for the sign.

2nd Story Entertainment, upstairs off Depot Street, sends its visitors to a free all-day lot on Depot Street. That is the business’s own description; we found no City rule for that lot.

Event days

  • Light Up Blue Ridge parade day, Saturday, November 28, 2026: all cars must be off East and West Main Street by 4 p.m., per Light Up Blue Ridge.
  • Arts in the Park: the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association runs free parking with shuttles from the Blue Ridge Farmers Market (787 Summit Street) and Blue Ridge Middle School (4560 Old Hwy 76). For the October 2026 festival the shuttle ran 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and paid parking without a shuttle was at the Trackside Station garage. The next festival is May 29 and 30, 2027; check the organizer’s page nearer the date for its parking plan.
  • Halloween Safe Zone, Saturday, October 31, 2026: free parking in all City-owned lots, along Mountain Street and at City Hall from 4 p.m., per the Fannin County Chamber. East Main between Church and Mountain streets closes to traffic.
  • Other festival and event days: the City sheet lists $20 a day in both City lots.

Dates are on the events calendar, and festival-day parking covers how each organizer handles it.

RVs, buses and trailers

We found nothing that publishes parking for RVs, buses or trailers downtown. The only rule on record is the City sheet’s: West Main spaces facing the tracks are for cars and small SUVs. Call the Fannin County Chamber at 706-632-5680 before you bring a large vehicle.

EV charging

The federal station locator lists two public EV charging sites within 2 miles of downtown, both Level 2 (none DC fast), and no others within 5 miles. (AFDC (U.S. DOE), checked Oct 17, 2026)

The Hampton Inn at 50 West Main Street has four public Level 2 (J1772) ports on the AmpUp network, paid by credit card, about 7 minutes’ walk from the depot; for hours, the federal locator says to contact the station. The Blue Ridge Inn Bed and Breakfast at 477 West First Street has one free Tesla Destination charger, open 24 hours but for Teslas only, about 4 minutes from the depot. The Chamber notes that charging is limited in the area.

Overnight parking

We found no published rule on overnight parking. The City sheet covers the daytime limit and the lot rates only. Ask Blue Ridge City Hall at (706) 632-2091, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Once you’ve parked, the day planner can start from your lot.
