Things to do

Things to Do in Downtown Blue Ridge, GA

The short answer

Downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia is a few walkable blocks on both sides of the railroad. In an hour you can see the depot, the Art Center in the old courthouse and a gallery or two. With a day, add the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, lunch on Main Street and dinner after 6 p.m. Every downtown place we list is within about a 9-minute walk of the depot.

Downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia is a short run of streets along the railroad, and nearly everything to do there sits a few minutes from the train depot. East Main Street and West Main Street run on either side of the tracks, with the depot and the Downtown City Park between them. We measured every downtown place in this guide against the depot along OpenStreetMap streets: 42 of 51 are about 5 minutes or less on foot, and the farthest is about 9 minutes.

The ideas below are sorted by how much time you have. Hours come from each business or organization and were checked Oct 17, 2026. For a timed plan built from those hours, with a walking route, use the day planner.

If you have an hour

  • The depot. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway boards at 241 Depot Street. The railway dates the depot to 1905; the Chamber says 1906, after the first depot burned. The ticket office is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern, seven days a week.
  • Two galleries a minute from the depot. High Country Art and Multitudes Gallery sit side by side on East Main Street. Multitudes shows hand-blown glass from more than 75 glass artists. It does not post hours, so check before you go.
  • The Art Center. The old Fannin County Courthouse at 420 West Main Street now holds the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association’s exhibits. It is open Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Mondays. It is about 7 minutes from the depot.
  • Books and coffee across from the depot. Copper Fox Books has a coffee café and opens at 8 a.m. every day.

If you have a few hours

  • Walk a loop. The Chamber’s Downtown Walking Trail is a 1.2-mile loop (2.2 miles with brewery side trips) that starts at the Downtown Visitor Center, 282 West Main Street.
  • Shop East Main. Most shops that post hours open by 10:30 a.m. and close between 5 and 6 p.m. The shops and galleries guide goes street by street.
  • Ride the rail bikes. Blue Ridge Rail Bikes are four-person, motor-assisted bikes on the rails: a 90-minute, 11-mile round trip from the depot. Arrive 45 minutes early and pick up tickets at the red caboose. No pets, and no children under 4.
  • See the local museum. The Fannin County Heritage Foundation museum at 411 West First Street is open April through November, Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission. It is about 5 minutes from the depot.
  • Play indoors. 2nd Story Entertainment has 18-hole mini golf and an arcade, open noon to 8 p.m. daily, with its entrance up Depot Street. Escape Blue Ridge is open every day by booking.

Watch the clock if you parked on Main Street: the City’s parking sheet sets a three-hour limit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on East and West Main. That sheet was captured in May 2024 and is not confirmed for 2026. The parking guide lists longer options.

If you have a day

A full day usually means the train. Regular trips are a 26-mile round trip along the Toccoa River to McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee. The 2-Hour Express runs on select dates with no layover; the 4-Hour Extended adds a two-hour layover in McCaysville and Copperhill. In the booking system for late October to early December 2026, the 4-hour trains run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the 2-hour trains 3 to 5 p.m. The railway says rides sell out weeks ahead, so book before you come. The train-day guide covers parking and timing from downtown.

Off the train, build the day around meals. All twelve restaurants that post hours are open Thursday through Saturday; Monday and Tuesday are thinner. See downtown restaurants for who is open on your date, and breakfast and coffee for the early hours. Weekends are the railway’s busiest days, with heavy traffic and limited parking, so arrive early on a Saturday.

On a rainy day

The train runs rain or shine. In town, these places are indoors; pick your date to see which are open.

In the evening

  • Dinner. Eleven of the twelve restaurants that post hours serve past 6 p.m. Thursday to Saturday.
  • A drink with a view. The Lookout, a rooftop bar on West Main Street, posts hours until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. More in breweries, wine and bars.
  • Live music. Misty Mountain Hops is a small live-music venue a short walk up the hill from East Main, open Tuesday to Saturday until 9 p.m.
  • Games. Vertigo Pinball stays open until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; 2nd Story Entertainment until 8 p.m. every night.
  • Ghost stories. Haunted Blue Ridge Ghost Tours walk downtown streets on Friday nights; the Chamber lists October 23 and 30, 2026 as the remaining dates this month.

These are outside downtown, and you will need a car. We have not measured drive times, so we do not give them.

  • Lake Blue Ridge Recreation Area. A Forest Service day-use area on the west side of the lake, open year-round with no fee. It has no potable water, so bring your own.
  • Morganton Point Recreation Area. The lake’s only developed shoreline campground, with a day-use area and boat access, at 475 Lake Drive, Morganton. The Forest Service route from Blue Ridge is US 515 north 4 miles to GA 60, then through Morganton to Lake Drive.
  • Tammen Park on the Toccoa River. Below Blue Ridge Dam, with an accessible fishing platform. Georgia DNR says to take US-76 east and turn right on the park road just before the river bridge. DNR stocks trout there weekly from the end of March to Labor Day.
  • Horseshoe Bend Park. Another Georgia DNR accessible trout site on the Toccoa, toward McCaysville.
